Help Us Double the Length of Our After-School Programs!

About the Project

Creative Kids
Out of Hand needs your help to double the length of our after-school programs! Creative Kids provides free theater training at CEP schools, the Title I schools with the highest concentration of kids from low-income families. Through Creative Kids, we help close the opportunity gap for our students: Black and Hispanic kids have less than half the access to arts education of the White peers, and the gap is widest at high-poverty schools. This matters because, according to a massive NEA/Department of Education study, low-income students with arts-rich experiences are 5 times more likely to graduate from high school than other low-income students, and more than 3 times as likely to earn a B.A.

Why Double the Length?

Creative Kids is already fun exposure to the arts and more: it is designed to develop collaboration, communication, creativity and confidence, skills critical for success in the 21st century workplace. By doubling the length of our after-school programs from 8 weeks to 15, we can go beyond basics and rehearse and perform a play, giving our students the magical experience of turning printed words into a show, and supporting literacy and a love of reading. The Alliance Theatre is graciously letting us use their amazing library of plays for classes and camps, so by doubling our class length, we will be able to give our students a first-class experience, for free, at their schools.
