Help Synchronicity Theatre raise up women’s voices in the arts in 2018-2019

About the Project

In our current political and social climate, the need to uplift the voices of women and support their stories is more vital than ever. Synchronicity has been practicing and living this mission for 21 years and is a leader in Atlanta in the development of new work and the sharing of women’s issues and voices. Synchronicity also brings theatre and community together to create theatrical experiences that are powerful, transformative and extend beyond the theatre walls.  For all of our shows, we work with local and national community partners to foster powerful dialogue around vital issues being raised by the plays and to provide outreach and service opportunities to engage audiences and spark transformative change.   This year our season embodies these two core values of our mission. We will produce two world premieres written by women that tackle important political and social issues facing our country right now including race, mental health, police brutality and the dangerous impact of PTSD on a marriage.

This spring and summer, we will proudly present the World Premiere of Aline Lathrop’s The Hero’s Wife (4/11/19 – 5/5/19) and the World Premiere of Kimberly Monks’ Hands of Color (6/6/19 – 6/30/19). Both of these compelling new plays spotlight the voices of women and marginalized communities, bringing them into the center to discuss issues of race, mental health, and war. The Hero’s Wife is about the relationship between a young woman and her husband who has just returned from combat and is suffering from PTSD. Hands of Color tells the story of Thomas, an unapologetic racist, who gets his world turned upside down when a chance encounter lands him in a new family.
Both shows are uniquely positioned to expose audiences to new cultures and perspectives. As part of our work surrounding these two shows, we are partnering with numerous community organizations to present post-show discussions, event panels, and service projects. If you care about women and believe in the power of their voices to transform and uplift through the arts, please support this project.  Your support will help us create service opportunities around Atlanta as well as launch these two amazing world premieres. Help us build bridges between our communities and uplift the voices of women in a time when so many of them are being silenced and donate now!

Funds raised through Power2Give will go to support moderated talkbacks after each show, launch community service projects with our partners, promote engagement events and to help fund the performers and artists who makes the shows possible.

Community Partners Include: The Ben Marion Institute for Social Justice, Emory Center for Arts & Ethics, and
the National Center for Civil and Human Rights.

Additional Partners May Include:
Veterans for Peace, Veterans Heart GA, Veterans Administration, and Real Dads Read
