Partner with contemporary music ensemble, Bent Frequency to explode marginalized programming in classical music and create ties that stay on it!

About the Project

This year, Bent Frequency celebrates its 16th season in 2018-19 with our Atlanta Series, AMPLIFY! Bent Frequency will explore a multitude of provocative, contemporary voices including short residencies by Sarah Hennies and Du Yun.  Committed to exploding marginalized programming, BF brings you a season loaded with vitality, relevance, representation, and sheer awesomeness. Bent Frequency's Atlanta Season Series features 93% living composers, 79% women composers, 57% composers of color, 100% great music.

Partner with Bent Frequency in supporting a special April 2019 concert, Ties That Stay On It.  As composer Julius Eastman wrote, “Ties that move and break, disappear, and return again, are not ties that stay on it.” Our program seeks to strengthen ties among and within communities.

Double your donation by contributing to our campaign - the City of Atlanta will match your gift!

Ties that Stay On It will be presented on April 9, 2019.  Bent Frequency will feature works by Anahita Abbasi, Eve Beglarian, Julius Eastman, George Lewis, Emily Koh (Athens), and a world premiere by Colette Coward aka CC Sunchild (Atlanta).  In addition to commissioning a new work by Colette Coward for this concert, Bent Frequency will be bringing MacArthur and Guggenheim Fellow and eminent composer George Lewis to Atlanta for this event.

What will your tax deductible donation (matched dollar for dollar by Power2give!) help to fund?
  •  Commissioning of a world premiere by Colette Coward
  •  Costs associated with George Lewis’ residency in Atlanta
  •  Performance fees for professional musicians, production and advertising costs, scores, etc.
  •  Free tickets for all! making this performance accessible for all in the metro Atlanta area
  •  Amplifying the voices of vital and relevant contemporary composers, largely under represented, in classical music

As an ensemble that has presented numerous collaborations with arts organizations from across the country over the past 15 years, Bent Frequency is deeply committed to globalizing the Georgia music scene. That is, bringing international attention to the world-class artistic community in Atlanta by presenting important and cutting edge projects for Georgia audiences as well as by bringing world-class artists to the state.   Enabled by numerous partnerships and your support, Bent Frequency’s many interdisciplinary, community-centered programs and educational events have attracted a large and loyal following, representing a wide range of demographics. Your gift underscores the importance of our season and the need to present diverse and inclusive programming in Atlanta.

This program will be presented on April 9, 2019 at 7:30pm, as part of the SoundNOW contemporary music festival and will be free and open to the public (https://www.atlantasoundnowfestival.com/) at Kopleff Recital Hall, Georgia State University, Atlanta, GA
