Support ATLANTA YOUNG SINGERS and Music Education for Children and Youth all over Atlanta!

About the Project

During this difficult time in our world, Atlanta's premier choir for children and youth ages 7-18, ATLANTA YOUNG SINGERS (AYS) continues to make a real difference now for 157 talented, committed, passionate youth – representing Atlanta’s diversity, 90+ schools, 54 zip codes, and 11 counties – who will lead and change our future.  AYS serves schools, educators, families, and audiences in all of these communities and is the most diverse community choral program in the metro area. At the forefront of choral art in Atlanta and the U.S., AYS is educating and developing young talented Singers and wowing audiences - currently online in virtual classrooms and with virtual performances - with innovative programming, professionally performed music, commissions of new American choral works, and multidisciplinary collaborations.  Over 90,000 people heard AYS Choirs last year! We reach youth and audiences through the choral medium (over 20,000 directly every year), helping them recognize, appreciate, and cultivate their own art for a lifetime.  So many Alumni tell us: AYS isn’t just something you do; it helps shape WHO YOU ARE.  Our Singers create art EVERY day, guaranteeing that there will be artists, creators, AND committed citizens and patrons tomorrow.    Founded in 1975, AYS continues to thrill audiences and spark artistic futures, with a focus on youth development, choral excellence, and life-changing experiences.  We are committed to nurturing mentorship, cooperation, and the strong idea of individual commitment and responsibility to the group and its success. All AYS programs are constructed with the goal of advancing and co-mingling Singer leadership, development, creativity, music literacy, composition, and establishment of cultural relevance.

The audio we have included here is a live May 2019 performance of I AM VOYAGER by Robin Salkeld, sung by our Youth Chorale - 55 Singers ages 14-18 from 30 school environments around Atlanta.

Composer Salkeld writes: The Voyager 1 space probe is the farthest human-made object from earth, and on September 12, 2013, NASA officially confirmed that it had become the first such object in interstellar space. I decided to write this piece to commemorate the long arc of its life and continuing mission. The Latin text (translation in English sung by solo voice) is taken from the golden record of the spacecraft, on which is inscribed many fragments of our culture and knowledge, including greetings in 55 different languages. This piece is dedicated to all those who suffer and sacrifice for the benefit of all humanity, sometimes long after they are gone.

Work like this, music of far-reaching places and the deep meaning of community and personkind, influences a lifetime.

Help ATLANTA YOUNG SINGERS reach music educators and thousands of children and youth in Atlanta this year and RIGHT NOW through the AYS ALL OUR VOICES in HARMONY Scholarship Funds and FREE AYS MY JOURNEY YOURS Outreach workshops and intensives - such as AYS YOUNG MEN’S POWER SING, GUEST ARTIST Residencies, AYS COMPOSER NEXT DOOR Project, COMMUNITY CHILDREN'S CHORAL FESTIVAL, and AYS FREE IN-SCHOOL WORKSHOPS - and provide opportunities for skilled instructors and guest artists to bring new tools and techniques to Singers, invited area students, and music educators all over metro Atlanta.

Your ATLANTA YOUNG SINGERS need YOU now more than ever!
