BLACK VELVET, Shamel Pitts and Mirelle Martins' multi-disciplinary performance art work.

About the Project

Yes Art!
glo has been creating and organizing ingenious live art experiences in Atlanta for 8 years. In March 2018, our Tanz Farm project returns with BLACK VELVET, an international art piece with artists based in Sao Paulo, NYC, and Tel Aviv.
It Is a social sculpture that aims to share and reflect on the colorfulness of blackness--especially in regards to black women--in a relationship of love, compassion and camaraderie. In the work, creators and performers Shamel Pitts and Mirelle Martins research and share the sensibility of ideals, models and textures as a projection of self.

Let's make deep connections.
Each public interaction with BLACK VELVET--creative process, free movement workshops and artist talks, community conversations and performance installations--will become a community centered space for process, healing, and fantastical activation. The stakes are high. Every move is complex. Thank you for journeying with glo for our 2018 Tanz Farm program.

Your support means new worlds. Join us!
  • Empathy building.
  • Community healing.
  • Alternative art practices.
What does your funding support?
100% of the support from your Power2Give donation and the City of Atlanta goes directly to the artists of BLACK VELVET.  Your support goes directly to producing new live art in Atlanta, including animation and film equipment, lighting and a sprung floor for the performers. Your support goes directly to housing, feeding and transporting International artists for 10-days in Atlanta.

We are about social sculpture, and bringing all people together through art.
glo is a collaborative platform of relationship building across issues, identities, and creative new possibilities.

Launched in 2012, Tanz Farm's mission is anchored in the agency of risk-taking and to expand boundaries of support for new ideas and languages in live art. We offer a range of resources and happenings that provide in-depth information and create dynamic access to artists, including SHOPS, performances, and our intimate FEED conversation series. Tanz Farm is a collaboration of glo and The Goat Farm Arts Center.
