Support Hammonds House Museum's Cultural Trip Through Digital Space

About the Project

The need to develop a digital strategy to disrupt our existing business model and enable us to move beyond our walls was presented at the Hammonds House Museum February 2020 Board of Trustees meeting. In addition to expanding our presentation space and reach, this strategy would also lead to increased earned and contributed revenue, enhancement of our brand and new opportunities to work with artists. We believed digital to be our “widget”. At the February meeting the board gave the green light to move forward and ideate a digital strategy over the next six months. Then the world was disrupted by Covid-19 and our timeline became NOW! rather than later. Welcome to the future!!

We have branded our effort HHM Digital. HHM Digital is mission driven and touches artistic creation and development, presentation, education, preservation, audience engagement and institutional advancement.
Our effort is split into four phases of development.

Phase One focuses on our existing programs. This focus engages our audiences, keeps artists working and keeps us on the task of developing mission driven content. We identified programs which lent themselves to a digital experiences. Our current virtual programming schedule is as follows:

May 15: Nu Africans Exhibition Virtual Opening. Works by Maurice Evans and Grace Kisa
May 29: An Evening with jessica Care moore. Conversation and Readings from her new book of poetry.
June 7: Black Classical Muse: A Concert of African American Composers w/ Dwight Andrews in conversation.
June 12: Felton Eaddy's Poetry Kitchen. An evening of poets presenting original poetic works.
June 27: Storytelling with Kuumba Storytellers for the family.

Phase Two of our project involves maximizing underutilized space in the museum, turning our second floor into a production hub with dedicated spaces for digital content production.

Phase Three further supports the articulation of our mission and focus on art, culture and community through the development of a podcast network. Podcasts focusing on varying aspects of Black art and culture will be developed and distributed under the HHM Digital umbrella.

Phase Four investigates the development of our brand of cultural content for commercial use.

Your support of HHM Digital through this Power2Give Campaign moves Hammonds House Museum into the Afrofuturistic world we have all been waiting for!
