We need your help.

About the Project

We have collectively witnessed the world shift fundamentally over the last 53 days. We have gone from engaging in live art in public spaces to making movement in digital realms. From our homes, we're thinking about those who have shown us to be patient, the desire to learn and respect this teaching and thinking, all while we embrace the joy of seriousness. Now we are asking: how can we address this moment when many of us are forced to be still and yet so many--health care and sanitation workers, and grocers--can't stop moving as they put themselves at great risk? Creativity and experimentation are in every bone of our bodies. But our organization is being pushed to the limits of survival.

Most immediately, we need 100% of these funds to help us retain our entire band of female artists--including our founder and five moving artists--and our nimble staff of 2,  throughout this unprecedented timeWith perseverance, we have avoided furloughs, but we need your help now more than ever. These funds will also help us cover costs associated with our free and public digital initiatives, including people Movement Shops, gloPLAY, and CARE darning sessions. We’re giving back in the best way we know how,  through the healing power of movement and making.

Georgia
We are proud of our team for pivoting beyond glo’s primary work in choreography to create and deliver protective covering to Georgia’s essential workers who are putting themselves at risk on a daily basis in order to keep us safe, well, fed, and the lights on. Daily, over the past 7 weeks, glo has delivered masks to El Refugio Ministry, ACLU staff, St. Francis Emergency Care, Westside Corner Grocery, Pets are People Too, Feminist Women's Healthcare, Trader Joe's clerks, SaultoPaul Farms, Dekalb Public Schools bus drivers, Thumbs Up Diner, Whole Foods, Piedmont Henry, Dekalb County Sheriffs office,  Atlanta Fire Rescue, Little Tart, Grady Hospital ER, Emory Hospital Pharmacy, ATL Public Schools, Branan Towers Senior Center, Emory Hospital ER, and AFSCME.

Community
Moving necessity into practice, we’re working with our sisters and brothers to create a Virtual Retreat. We plan to assemble digitally across disciplines to field questions surrounding the implications, textures, and politics of "slowing down, keeping going," grounding in the vital resonating force stirring this moment.

Earth home

During this pandemic, we've been more able to linger in the present, to look at things grow. We’ve been thinking about this inherent faith in the future. And yet in our confinement right now, in our inability to revel in spring, and  potentially summer, there is a real sorrow.  glo’s lost loose and loved Micro Prairie in a yet-to-be developed rolling valley in Midtown is an invitation for our community to heal, hope, and reach far.  Even while we are physically distancing, the flowers grow tall and strong towards the light. A small team is at work.

Your generosity will  help ensure that we emerge from these unprecedented times even stronger, more loving, more grounded, and more creative than ever.  Now is the time to manifest abundance as each other's keepers, and we- each and everyone of us- have the power to change the world. The newly enacted federal CARES Act increases the tax deductibility of donations, whether you itemize or not. Thank you for being generous!

P.S.  The  short film is documentation of choreography drawings, bundles, and process happening remotely, and weekly with Lauri, Hiroko, Kris, Noelle, Mech, and MaryJane, up to now, for the last 43 days. We just need to breathe and care for one another and be cared for. We must find aid in those around us and build structures for times, like these, that in essence, it seems we are always in. Perhaps this moment will galvanize a great empathy revolution, where love and care takes primacy.
