Supporting Black Artists in their Work

About the Project

NBAForward - Artist Project Fund

With the uneasiness we all feel surrounding COVID-19, it is NBAF’s priority to ensure that our community doesn’t go without resources during times of a national crisis. As a result, NBAF (National Black Arts) launched an Artist Project Fund to support Black Artists in getting back to work and thus provide for their households. It is our hope to sustain this fund month over month through your support by adding new donors, corporate sponsors and community partners so that we can support black artists in Atlanta metropolitan community and eventually nationwide.

It is our desire to award small stipends to artists to navigate through these difficult times and continue to support our artist community in creating the work that makes our world so vibrant! Please consider supporting us in this effort at the link below. DONATE to the Artist Project Fund and make a difference in the life of an artist.

National Black Arts (NBAF)

NBAF embraces 32-years of history and stellar artistic and educational programming in music, dance, film, theater, literary arts, visual arts, and fashion design. The organization has evolved from a seasonal festival to year-round programming, showcasing artists of African descent who create, innovate and produce extraordinary work. NBAF is recognized as the oldest multidisciplinary arts organization in the U.S. focused exclusively on the arts and artists of African descent.

Founded in 1987 by the Fulton County Arts Council under the guidance of the Fulton County Board of Commissioners, NBAF was recognized in 2008 by the U.S. Congress for its importance to the “cultural fabric of greater Atlanta and all of America.” NBAF presents, supports and celebrates these artists and their work through excellent artistic programming and through arts education and youth development that nurture the talent of the next generation. NBAF received the 2018 Georgia Governor’s Award for Arts & Humanities.

Over the years, NBAF has featured acclaimed artists Maya Angelou, Wynton Marsalis, The O’Jays, The Manzari Brothers, Pearl Cleage, Spike Lee, Katherine Dunham, Harry Belafonte, Maurice Hines, Maxi Priest, , Radcliffe Bailey, Bill T. Jones, Giwayen Mata, National Ballet de Guinea, Gladys Knight, Les Nubians, Philadanco, The Heath Brothers, Cicely Tyson, August Wilson, Alfre Woodard, Angie Stone, Nikki Giovanni, Gregory Porter, Radcliffe Bailey, Kenny Leon among many others.

NBAF promotes diversity and success in the arts for people of African descent by working to grow our next generation of artists. The school-based educational programs present the rich history of the arts, and particularly our next generation of artists by providing artistic and professional development for public school students, strategies to improve their academic success and open pathways to higher education. NBAF also showcases emerging artists to help market their work, advance their careers, and transform their art into commerce.

When making donations this #GivingTuesday, help NBAF continue to support our artistic community and our looking forward to enjoying Atlanta's vibrant culture.
