Artist support and virtual arts-based educational content and community conversations

About the Project

It has been a whirlwind of data, updates and cancellations and the Story Tapestries Teams wants you to know how we're responding to the COVID-19 pandemic. All of our regularly scheduled programs in schools and community settings have been canceled or suspended, accounting for nearly $35,000 of income lost in March and April alone. We must cover our monthly expenses upwards of $20,000 and continue to guarantee delivery of high-quality programs that respond to the needs of our community.

We are working with our professional teaching artists to bring recorded and live content to you online that will:

  1. Weave dance, theater, storytelling, visual arts and spoken word into math, science, history and language arts lessons to make them engaging, fun, and effective. These programs support our students now learning from home, lessening the learning gap especially for youth at highest risk of falling behind.
  2. Create community in a moment when we need it most by hosting Amplify US! community workshops via an online platform so we can have conversations and learn strategies that help us face our fears as a unified force, lightening the load of each individual.
We are also deeply concerned about the inequities in access to technology, and therefore our artists are building physical learning kits that can be distributed via food-distribution sites - providing "brain food" alongside nourishment - and for our elders in nursing home facilities who are completely isolated from their loved ones. To do this requires supplies such as paper, markers, and colored pencils, in addition to the artists' time to develop and print activity instructions.

Story Tapestries is actively fundraising to bring arts-based educational content to users for free or at a subsidized rate, while guaranteeing an income for our independently contracted artists. We know this is a tumultuous and difficult time for everyone with many unanswered questions. Our artists are facing an unknown time period without paid work, but they are deeply committed to continuing to serve our Mission. You can learn more about our detailed plan for responding to this crisis here: https://storytapestries.org/support-us/story-tapestries-responds-to-covid-19/

Perhaps this is the time when we need the arts as a vehicle for change the most, as the arts have a way of helping us navigate uncharted territory and put sensations into frameworks that help unite us and identify what we have in common, bringing us together as a local and global community in overcoming this pandemic and give us the tools to teach the next generation.

We are grateful for the power of the arts to unite, and we greatly appreciate your support!

Ensure that everyone can bring the joy of the arts into their home during this time when our traditional performance spaces must remain closed. Your $450 gift will bring the magic of a professional performing artist's live presentation into the homes of thousands of people via live streaming.
In return, we'll bring the magic of the performing arts directly into your home. In this period when we're not able to meet in theaters, libraries, museums and other community spaces to celebrate the joys of the arts, our artists are ready to bring the theater directly into your home! To say thank you for your generous gift to Story Tapestries, an artist will present a 30-minute performance in a live feed just for you, so you can watch from the comfort of your couch.
