About This Project

About this Project

We heard you want to see art in the lobby of The Tampa Museum of Art.  Now we need your help to make it happen!

In honor of our upcoming exhibition My Generation: Young Chinese Artists (June 7 – September 28), the Museum has commissioned a site-specific work by noted Chinese contemporary artist Wang Yuyang to hang in the lobby.  Constructed out of fiberglass, LIGHT complements the contemporary architectural aesthetic of the Museum, while paying homage to the abundant light that flows through our interior and the LEDs on the façade.

Process

The design and form of LIGHT is inspired by the Chinese character for light. Wang Yuyang inputs the strokes of Chinese character (light) into a computer program, and the program generates a sequence of numbers  (0 and 1s). Then the sequence of numbers is input into a three dimension software program, which transfers the numbers into a 3D model. You can see what the final product will look like in the image here.

Wang Yuyang will be traveling from Beijing to Tampa to construct and install LIGHT in our lobby.  Donors contributing $250 or more will be invited to visit during the installation, meet the artist, and watch the process unfold!

This is your opportunity to bring a one-of-a-kind creation to enhance our community landscape.
