About This Project

Remember camp as a treasured summer experience? Help us make sure that children who cannot afford to pay for camp get to spend one week of their summer on an aquatic adventure. Help support one week of camp.

As part of our mission to provide environmental education to our diverse community, we offer What's in Your Watershed?, a week-long summer camp. What's in Your Watershed literally immerses underserved children in the Tampa Bay region's water resources - snorkeling, wading and swimming!. Campers are entirely made up of low-income, minority and at-risk youth in grades 4-8 from schools and social service organizations; over four weeks, up to 52 children will participate (13 each week.)

Camp activities are designed to be both fun and challenging: children learn how to use microscopes, and also enjoy crafts, games and swimming! During the week, children will:

  • Take three fun-filled field expeditions to local nature parks such as Crystal Springs or Ft. Desoto for hands-on investigation of plants, animals and water quality.
  • Make maps and models that demonstrate human impact on our water supply.
  • Dissect a squid.
  • Come face to face with over 2,000 fish in our tanks during a Swim with the Fish program.
  • Take a Tampa Bay eco-tour aboard the Bay Spirit II.

What’s in Your Watershed? also empowers campers to become leaders in conservation by learning simple steps that they can introduce at home to help protect the environment, such as washing cars on the lawn to reduce chemicals that make it into the watershed. Cost per child for week-long full-day travel camp: $343
