About This Project

Evoking creativity, innovation and collaboration students at Western Middle School will produce a huge and exciting Blue Man Group inspired installation on the steps of the Kentucky Center for the Arts. The Louisville Visual Art Association will guide students from Western Middle School to create a 16-foot percussion drum sculpture with three Blue Man sculptures climbing up the side. Hanging above the drum will be glass blown droplets designed by the students at a local Glass Art Studio. Lighting will beam at the glass droplets to refract color and dynamic reflection through the windows of Kentucky Center for the Arts.  BLUE duct tape footprints will lead viewers to the sculpture and up to the Kentucky Center entrance.

For the students, ages 10-13, the twelve-week project offers opportunity to create a highly visible work of art utilizing Louisville symbols and imagery, screen printing, glass blowing and construction while interacting with Blue Man Group, and learning how art can be incorporated into other subjects. Each student will receive a complimentary pass to a performance, including a backstage tour.  The sculpture will be installed on the steps of the Kentucky Center for four weeks prior to (and during) Blue Man Group performance dates.
