About This Project

Are you moved by classic works of art such as woodcuts by Albrecht Durer; lithographs by Toulouse-Lautrec; etchings by Rembrandt and Picasso; and screenprints by Andy Warhol? In today’s art and design world of high tech processes people crave art made using traditional techniques. And artists like getting their hands dirty!

Atlanta Printmakers Studio's Emerging Artist Residency Program gives artists the opportunity to follow in the footsteps of a long line of celebrated printmakers, while breathing new life into traditional techniques.

Our studio is the only public printmaking facility of its kind in the region, so providing access to our equipment and knowledge is essential for artists who want to make prints. The six-month residency makes it possible for artists to learn new techniques, develop their skills, and create a substantial art project.

Each residency includes:
  • 6 months of 24/7 access to the APS studio, which includes equipment for etching, letterpress, screenprinting and other traditional printmaking processes
  • Art supplies stipend
  • Free printmaking class
  • One-on-one mentoring with professional artist
  • An exhibition that presents their artwork to the community
Who benefits:
The artists, the public, and the studio! The artists achieve professional growth and success as they build their artistic career. The public benefits from a free art exhibit and residency talk where the artists share their ideas and experiences. The studio benefits from this exposure, and also receives a portion of the prints, which will be displayed in future exhibitions as well as used as educational tools during lectures and classes. The art will foster pleasure and appreciation in others and help generate support for future APS programming.

What does the budget cover:
$1800  Studio Access for 6 Months
$1800  Materials Stipends
$1232  Printmaking Classes, Personal Mentors, and Exhibit Expenses
  $168  Power2Give Admin Fee
$5000  Project Total for 3 Resident Artists

Atlanta Printmakers Studio has successfully nurtured artists through the Emerging Artist Residency Program for the past four years. With your donations and the City of Atlanta generous matching support we will make it a reality again in 2013!

A fine art print is a work of art consisting of ink on paper and often exists in multiples. The print is created not by drawing directly on paper, but on another surface that is transferred on a sheet of paper. Among the advantages of making art this way is that numerous impressions can be made to create an edition of prints.

The mission of the Atlanta Printmakers Studio is to nurture the practice of printmaking as an original art form among professional artists and anyone who wants to learn. APS exists to provide studio space and equipment for artist renters and offers community outreach through classes, workshops and exhibitions in order to enhance the understanding of and appreciation for fine art printmaking.
